Wow, Lets Weave!

Wow, I haven't blogged since January! I'm kinda surprised, but not at the same time. I make most of my post on Instagram so follow me there if you have a page.

I taught myself how to weave  this year, which is something I have wanted to to for a very long time. Below are a few of my favorite Wall Weavings which I have done, as well as a few of my favorite pieces by fellow weavers.

I love making jewelry, but a part of me has been so excited to learn something new, so after watching many videos online and checking out the DIY weaving posts on Pinterest I finally made a trip to my local craft shop. I love deciding on what colors to buy and there are some really pretty choices out there. I now have three big bins of yarn with all of my favorite selections.

At home I found an old painting of mine that I didn't like anymore so I stripped it and used the frame and hammered in some nails to make my loom. I am pretty proud of my loom and the fact that I made it myself.

I love how they have turned out and think that Wall Weavings can be such interesting pieces of art to add to your home. They have a bohemian feel that would make any creative workspace, nursery, or even a living room come alive with interest. Here are a few of the weavings I have done and the last few photos are of other weavers pieces that I think are inspiring. What color combinations do you like? Vibrant and colorful or neutral?

Friday Artist Love!

It's been a little while since I have done an Artist Love post. Today I am featuring the magical  artwork of Amanda Clark who's painting and shop Earth Angels Art can be found on Etsy. Her paintings are inspired from the old world fairy-tales, gypsy souls and folklore.I love the feel of each of her paintings and I loved these four especially. I was drawn to her artwork because of the colors used, the nature & animals incorporated, and the magical feeling of each piece.  You can find her prints on Etsy, so please check out her shop.

Goals for a New Year

Every year I tell myself not to make any New Years Resolutions. They seem like a good idea at first, but when they fall through you kind of feel disappointed with yourself. I have decided that I will make goals for this year that are simple and attainable. Plus I figure if they are written down and posted here on my blog then there is no excuse to not follow through.

1. Make 2 new friends that I can hang with by the end of 2013. Simple yet not always so easy to do.
2.Create 2 new large abstract paintings for home. I love to paint but have not done this in a few years.
3.Reach 250 sales minimum in my etsy shop LOVE n LAVISH. I'm at 101 right now (yeah).
4.Babies? Have a date in mind and have that convo with K sometime soon. Are we ready yet?
5.Get running! I want be able to run a 5k by the end of 2013 or have a marathon planned for 2014. Keep fit!
6.Take a Jewelry making class and learn how to work with metals like copper, gold and silver. I want to handcraft from scratch my own designs! I feel it in my bones.
7.Eat cleaner. Cut out the chocolate to some degree and make most of my meals.
8.Travel somewhere new. I love to go somewhere once a year. I love to travel and if you do too you should love this show Departures which follows two friends traveling the world. It's funny  and informative and the dudes are kinda hot.

So that's it! Well.... that's all I can think of for now. If you live somewhere really interesting yet affordable to travel to from Canada let me know. We are looking for a fun place to travel this summer, but we don't drive so things have to be accessible by foot or bus. K and I love the outdoors and nature, but also love shopping and discovering a city. Somewhere in the US maybe?

Sweet Items to Have!

Thank goodness it's Friday! Today is my day off and I was able to sleep in a bit and relax. I have no plans for today other then shopping for my nephews birthday present. Which got me looking around and finding really sweet cute things that I actually want for myself. Maybe you have a niece or nephew too, or you just love cute animal items like myself. Anyone thinking of Christmas shopping yet? Yikes, it does seem a bit early, but I would rather get it over with sooner then later. Anyway, I hope you love all of these amazing handmade items. Enjoy your weekend!

1. One Little Red Fox has these really hip and cute plush toys. I love this retro badger and his fun pink glasses.

2. Mount Royal Mint makes these sly looking fox soft sculptures seen on the left. They are so perfect together, you kind of wonder what kind of nonsense they get up to. I also love skunks and this skunk is red sweater is a great touch. The sweater skunk is sculpted from polymer clay, painted and has a cool embroidered felt tail.

 3. Gingiber has this black sheep pillow ( I love the bit of attitude this guy has) that any nursery could sport. The back of this pillow even has a really cool plaid fabric. This is also a print which would look awesome up on your living room wall.

4. Mystic Moose sells these really great eco-friendly totes with many different animals to choose from. I love this fox illustration Ceridwen has created and put on her totes and gift tags. Her shop has a great variety to choose from.

 5. Roddy and Ginger's screenprint Owl caught my owl this morning because I do have a thing for green owls. Their items have this wonderful mid-century folk-art twist.

6. Blue Eyed Night Owl's Cat Lover Bookmark is so adorable and handy because you will never loose your page. I love books and journals and this bookmark can even be used to keep your journal closed. Laura also sells sweet owl brooches, great for all of those owl item collectors out there.

The Ocean

I don't have the opportunity to be by the ocean very much, so when I stumbled upon these beautiful oil paintings of the ocean it took my breath away. I can't even properly put into words how I felt as I browsed through Artist Ran Ortner's site, so I wont. I hope you enjoy and love them too and have a look at his gallery website.

Sweetness Found in the Morning Fog

This photo is by Steve Mackay and it's called The Doe and the Jackdaw. I saw this photo today and immediately fell in love. The tones and softness of this photo and the the morning fog bring this photo perfectly together. I love that the Doe takes no real notice of the Jackday and is willing to let it just hitch a ride. A sweet friendship maybe?

Friday Treasures

Happy Friday!

Are you as excited about the weekend as I am? It' been a short week here because of our Thanksgiving Monday, so I'm really excited that Friday has come so soon. This weekend I may pick up a few new supplies for my shop ( new beads and stones) and my husband wants to get out tonight, but it's kind of a surprise on where we are going.

Today I was checking out some of my favorite sites and came upon this great outfit, which then inspired me to find some other accessories with a similar theme. I love each piece equally and you should check out the sites.

Wednesday has Talent!

I love to paint and because of this I have a great appreciation for those who do it really well. When I paint, I love the feeling of calm and peace while I work. I also enjoy finding the right colors and textures. Today I am posting some really great nature themed paintings by really beautiful artists.

These two paintings are by Amy Talluto, whos paintings I first found on 20 x 200.com. This first painting is called Sweet William and the second painting is called Blue Pool. Amy works exclusively with landscape imagery in my paintings and drawings and has a great collection on her website.

I love her subject matter and the colors are so vibrant and beautiful.

The second artist is a fellow Etsy shop owner who's paintings I first found on We heart it, and from there I found her lovely shop on Etsy . Brandy Cattor has a great eye and I loved these two nature themed paintings and the yellow used in this second painting is brilliant. The first painting is called Intrigue and the second painting is called Evergreens and Yellows.

The last two paintings are by Jaime Lauler Solberg and her artwork was shown today on the front page of Etsy in a treasury. I loved the mood and feeling of her work.

The first painting is called Cloud second painting is called Back to Dark. You can find more of Jaime's artwork on her website.

Falling into Autumn

I would not say that Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. The only reason I dislike fall a tiny bit is because I know that it can be followed by a long Canadian winter of cold temperatures, deep snow and heavy bulky clothing. But today I have decided to share some of the reasons why I do like Autumn.

These socks are amazing! I love warm fun socks that can make an outfit really fun. I even would wear them miss matched like in the photo.

I love this rustic Autumn inspired Necklace. The leaves are the perfect fall shade and it would look great with a thick warm sweater or cute cardigan.

Wow,this ceramic bowl is so beautiful! The mix of turquoise and browns are perfect. I could imagine having a warm oatmeal breakfast on a cool October morning in this bowl.

This hair clip immediately made me think fall. I love this oak leaf,it has lovely details and would look great with a fall and winter outfit.

I love the color yellow, and when the leaves start to turn yellow they look so vibrant and warm in the sunlight. I love this photo because I wish I were standing in that forest.

How could I not add some pumpkin foods, which you can only get at this time of year. I love pumpkin pie and those muffins look yummy. I just would need a cup of coffee and I would be in total foodie heaven.

NATURE and HOME DECOR

I've been working on some minimal photography prints for the past little while. I love how even simplicity can be beautiful if the subject is beautiful in its own way. I love leaves and flowers and stones and wood and here are some of the pieces you can find here .

A Collection of Leaves found on one of my nature walks

Single Ginkgo Leaf

I have a few more prints and example of how they can look framed and in a home on the wall. I love decorating my own home with others art as well as my own. It give a home the feeling of warmth and interest. I am sometimes shocked to visit someone's home and see very little up on their walls, it's somewhat disappointing.

Tomorrow I will be posting some of my favorite PINTEREST items!

Crisp Cool Air

Today and yesterday I posted a few new items in my shop and I thought I would post them for you.

I love these imprint brass leaf earrings which have really lovely turquoise chips at the top of the charm. I made myself a pair of these earrings and they are really lightweight and pretty. Find them here.

I love working with resin and pressed flowers and plants. I have a large collection of flowers and plants that I picked this spring and summer and yesterday I posted this small rose bud and moss necklace. It's a small size and really romantic looking. Find it here.

Our beautiful summer is coming to a close and I can feel it in the air even during the mid afternoon when it use to be so hot. There is this cool crisp air that feels fresh and energizing, but because I know it means that fall and winter are just around the corner I can't really enjoy it. So I work on my
shop and celebrate all of the beautiful plants and flowers that have just a few more months.
